One of the fastest way to gain Twitter notoriety is by having other users retweet you. But is there a science to getting retweeted more often? Absolutely. Here are five simple ways you can increase the likelihood of your followers clicking that sacred retweet button.
Quote vs. Retweet
What sorts of things do you like to retweet? I’ll bet you retweet relevant tweets, those with something uplifting, comedic, or insightful to their content.
So instead of simply retweeting those messages, why not use the “Quote” function on a mobile application? This allows you to not only add your own two cents, but gives your followers the opportunity to share your newly created tweet. After all, if you thought the original message was good enough to share, so too may your followers.
Quote vs. Reply
See a tweet worthy of a reply? Don’t. Use the quote function on a mobile application. You may need to edit the original tweet for length, but it gives both your followers and the original user a chance to retweet your quote. Plus it allows you to make an interesting tweet that much more interesting.
Time of Day
It’s easy enough to tweet something when it pops into your head, but why not make a mental or physical note? Better yet, use a mobile application to save your tweet to your drafts. Studies show that retweets occur most often in the late afternoon, Eastern Standard Time. Tweet your best material when it is most likely to be seen.
Quotable Quotables
Twitter users love quotations from famous people. We all know that. Quote a famous person and tag his or her Twitter handle within.
Keep It Simple
I tweeted an 89-character short, quotable, comedic tweet several days ago. It got dozens of favorites and retweets almost instantly. Why? Because it was short and sweet. My followers scrolling through their Twitter feed could read, acknowledge and appreciate the message in a matter of seconds. Anything that requires deep analysis or deciphering of links, pictures, hashtags, etc. is far more likely to be passed over.
