Just because your website can be viewed on a mobile device doesn’t make it mobile-friendly. We are in the age of the mobile device! As a business owner, it can be difficult to alter your website based on new trends in web design. To aid in the transition to the mobile landscape, here are a few helpful hints for how you can optimize your site:
Think with your thumb (or index finger). Desktop computers allow users to easily handle designs where precise clicking is required, but since mobile devices use finger and thumb tapping, users need larger buttons that are less exact.
Stay Practical – Most mobile users aren’t looking to dilly-dally. They are looking for information and they want it fast! Keep things simple, crisp, and to the point.
Choose the right font. While you should try to avoid using serif fonts unless they’re very sharp and easy to read, mobiles have advanced enough that you can be more creative with type and you can now embed fonts on a mobile site.
Always optimize and test for efficiency. Test, test, and test again! It is important to test across a cross-section of devices, however, and you should aim to make this an iterative, ongoing process.
